Kites:

To handle a range of winds, look for three kites: a small high wind kite (20-plus knots), a medium-size moderate-wind kite (15-20 knots), and large light-wind kite (18-14knots). For a person who weighs 175 pounds, the ultimate or basic quiver of kites might be an 8-meter, a 12-meter and a 17-meter. This would handle nearly all winds you’d come across.

I believe that in Oklahoma City (Lake Hefner). One should have at least 2 kites a 77-8- or 9 meter for high wind & 10-11-or12 meter for low wind. Those 2 kites should cover all year long.

Boards:

Instead of expanding your quiver’s wind range with another kite, consider a more frugal route and buy another board. We suggest having a performance board (100 cm to 135cm) and light-wind board (140cm to 160cm) a 145cm will be perfect. The smaller board lets you hold down more kites, allowing you to ride in higher winds. The added surface or a larger board gets you planning faster. Short, wide boards (typically 130cm by 45cm) keep you planning in lighter wind while maintaining the advantages of a smaller deck. It’s all a matter of preference.

Bars:

Adjusting your line lengh will expand the range of your kites. set up two bars -one for light wind and one for high wind - to save time. your light -wind bar should be longer, 45cm to 60cm , with 27 to 30-meter line. the added bar lengh will allow the large kites used in light winds to turn faster, while these longer lines will expand your wind window, allowing a larger power stroke.

your high-wind bar should be shorter, 37cm to 45cm , with 20- to 25-meter lines. The shorter bar makes your kite less reactive to your movement, and the shorter lines shrink your wind window, giving less of a power stroke and making the kite easier to move through the power zone and to the edge of the wind window.

The math formula:

Light wind: large board (140cm to 170cm) + large kite (11meter to 17meter) + long bar (45cm to 65cm) + longer ling (27m to 30m)

High wind: small board (100cm to 135cm) + small kite (7meter to 10meter) + short bar (45m to 22m) + shorter lines (25m to 20m).
